It is one of two types of monotreme, an egg-laying mammalian, while also a marsupial. The Tasmanian Devil is a meat-eating scavenger marsupial found only in the island state of Tasmania. It is an endangered species and is currently facing extinction caused by a facial tumour that affects a majority of the population. The Tasmanian Tiger or Thylacine has been extinct since the mid-twentieth century. There have been the occasional unconfirmed sightings in the untouched northwest and southwest of the island state.
